Indian Paintbrush

February

The indian paintbrush has been blooming for quite some time now.

Note: this species only grows when associated with sticky monkeyflower (note the monkeyflower leaves at the bottom of both photos).

    • Paintbrush is a partial parasite on the other plant’s roots, although it’s not a total parasite since it’s photosynthetic – and it doesn’t kill the host plant. Still, mooching off another plant’s roots is a good way to get more nutrients.
